There two different types of 'Army Buildings. Camps and Training Centers. Both have an important role in Troops. It is recommended to use both wisely because of their great expense.
Camps
Camps: Camps are important because they hold and hire Troops. Higher upgrade camps give you more army space. A Level 1 Army Camp holds 20 spaces. Every troop type takes up a certain number of spaces.

Training Center
A Training Center cannot be upgraded. Instead, it is used for upgrading and unlocking Troops. For example, a Level 2 Hunter is stronger than a Level 1 Hunter, but a Level 5 Hunter's strength surpasses any previous level and unlocks a Centaur. Higher Level troops are stronger (+DMG, +HP), but also have a higher hiring cost.
Different level troops have different appearances. Ex. Treants Level 1-2 are standard, but from 3-4, they turn to a lighter shade of green and have sharp elbows. Then, at Level 5, they turn orange.
