I really like your blog post and also the comments you have for various hero's (particularly what you said about Siren and Ghoulem). Just curious what team you like to run best and what servers you play on.
Hi there, thanks for your support and your SPS Tuning entry. I know that the page isunder construction but still, your comment that Vlad is a "best example of a suboptimal damage dealer for boss killing" is not true. SZ, SB, Vlad and Immo are four of the best single target (with capped dmg) hitter. Even though the chance of Vlad's proc to hit is 30% and Immo's 20% there are still extra hits. Hits most of other heroes (Aries, Molt, WL, MC,...) do not do. Lets say you put HB Talent and SD Crest on Vlad. He won't do as much dmg as a SZ with the same talent/crest combo but would still perform great. But actually getting a 8/8 Heavy Blow is way to much effort for very low outcome. Therefore I would be careful with stating this on a page. At least you should mention that it is theoretically.
I do not understand how you can conclude that Vlad is good at single target DPS.
It is quite clear how his skill behaves, and when he is winding up his skill he is not performing regular attacks. In this regard Immortep is significantly better since his hit rate is at least in line with the 200ms capped attack from max acceleration.
Vlad is good because his skill heals him and he hits a wide area, but these two things do not mean he is a good boss killer.
Putting a double proc setup wont help him either because every time he fills on energy and has no CD he will waste time doing his skill instead of scoring extra proc hits from regular attacks.
Hm in case Vlad doesn't do auto attacks while his winding skill is running then of course he wouldn't be good for single target dmg. But why do you think that Vlad behaves like this? When he procs then you can see the animation of his auto attacks. Because of this I expected him to attack... Do you have a source or proof for your statment? Please let us know :)
Ill try with mine later I think the purple bolts during whirl and see if its really doing damage or if it is some artifact of frameskip from multiple pd's. I think if I put slowdown crest on him i should see unusually low damage compared to whirl damage indicating a proc every 4th hit.
Generally speaking the premise of my earlier statements is the uniform behavior across all heroes that when they are doing a skill they are not doing a regular attack. If it turns out that Vlad/Immortep/SZ merely activate their skill and then continue auto attacking then their skill effect is an aura and that makes them the best damage dealers out there.
I think the skill behaves like an aura while the continue their auto attacks. That's why many players state in forums and so on that the mentioned heroes are exceptional good for dmg capped single targets. My team is PD, Druid, Vlad, SB, SZ... and it works fine. Even though it might be interesting to know how much higher if the dmg output would be in case I would put HB on them with SD crest.

I did some more testing with SD and i was seeing it proc during one of the attack auras, given this evidence I have revised my tuning article and run another simulation comparing all attack aura heros and santa boom to give a break down of their performance.
